Votes For West And De la Cruz To Be Counted…For Now.

In the print version of today’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Jeff Amy writes that the Georgia Supreme Court reversed a lower court ruling removing independent candidate Cornel West and Socialist candidate Claudia De la Cruz from Georgia’s ballot and saying any votes cast for them will not count. In other words, if you want to vote for one of these two, the Georgia Supreme Court says “You can do that.”

However…

This doesn’t guarantee that votes for the two will be counted. They could still be disqualified by the state high court, in which case votes for them would be discarded.

Thus, the Georgia Supreme Court has not issued a full ruling on this matter, which of course is important for future elections, in addition to the 2024 General Election. Let’s call this a small temporary victory for folks who want to see Georgia’s ballot access laws eased.
