Hancock County Asks Barry Fleming to Resign as County Attorney

The Hancock County Board of Commissioners has voted unanimously to ask state Rep. Barry Fleming (R-Harlem) to resign his position as county attorney, according to Georgia Public Broadcasting, over his sponsorship of the omnibus election bill, HB 531, which passed the state House on March 1. Reportedly, commissioners asked Fleming to resign at the request of residents, some of whom alleged that Fleming was trying to suppress votes. Seventy-one percent of the residents of Hancock County are African-American.

President Joe Biden won Hancock County with 71.7 percent of the vote.
