57 House Republicans Sign Amicus Brief in Support of SB 202

More than 50 members of the House Republican Conference signed an amicus brief led by Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA) in the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Georgia in support of Georgia’s new election law, SB 202. The election law is being challenged in federal court by the Department of Justice in a case that is almost certain to reach the Supreme Court.

“The Constitution grants states – not the Executive Branch or federal courts – broad discretion to prevent potential voter fraud and voter intimidation, including implementing voter ID,” Allen said in a press release. “The Biden Administration’s lawsuit against Georgia is just the latest example of an ongoing effort to federalize elections, and is the same attempt that is being waged legislatively with Congressional Democrats’ For the People Act. We must reject these efforts and stand with the Constitution to defend states’ authority to conduct and administer elections.”

In addition to every House Republican from the Georgia congressional delegation, notable signers to the amicus brief include Reps. Jim Banks (R-IN), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ted Budd (R-NC), Rodney Davis (R-IL), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Mike Johnson (R-LA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Chip Roy (R-TX), Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Elise Stefanik (R-NY).
