Democratic Candidate Rumors.
Those of you who pay careful attention to Peach Pundit’s 2026 Election Rumor Tracker will know that Michael Thurmond, former Labor Commissioner, and DeKalb County CEO, is a potential candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor.
WMAZ reports Thurmond all but announced his candidacy during a speech in Albany.
“If y’all invite me back next year when I’m running for governor, I’m going to be up here for a while,” Thurmond said at a meeting of the General Missionary Baptist Convention in Albany.
His brief speech mixed political and religious themes, sounding a political tone ahead of what appears to be an increasingly likely bid for the Governor’s Mansion.
“Politicians come and politicians go,” he said earlier in his remarks. “I come to remind you that Trump may be in the White House, but God is still on His throne.”
Meanwhile, I’m hearing that Senator Sonya Halpern is moving closer to a run for Lieutenant Governor.
