Political news is bursting forth in the peach state today. Let’s get started.
0. UDATE: Insider Advantage tosses out this rumor about former Senator David Perdue:
…various sources inform InsiderAdvantage that former Senator Perdue is seriously considering a run for the Republican gubernatorial nomination next year against incumbent Kemp. They say the topic has come up in conversations between the former president and Perdue. (It should be pointed out that, last November 3rd, Perdue actually outpolled his Democratic opponent Jon Ossof statewide. It was only in the January 5th runoff that Perdue was narrowly defeated by Ossoff due to a GOP voter drop off.
Just a few weeks ago Perdue declined to challenge Warnock for U.S. Senate:
- Lifelong Democrat and newly minted Trump Superstar Supporter Vernon Jones is “looking closely” at a primary challenge to Governor Brian Kemp.
2. Donald Trump has endorsed Jody Hice’s primary challenge of SOS Brad Raffensperger:
“I have 100% confidence in Jody to fight for Free, Fair, and Secure Elections in Georgia, in line with our beloved U.S. Constitution. Jody will stop the Fraud and get honesty into our Elections! Jody loves the people of Georgia, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement,” Trump said in a statement through his political action committee, Save America PAC.
3. The AJC’s Greg Bluestein wonders if a “Trump Slate” is forming in an attempt to topple GOPers Trump doesn’t like:
It seems to me Georgia Republicans have two paths before them: spend the next two years seeking revenge against those not deemed loyal enough to Donald Trump, or rebuild a coalition of rural and suburban voters that can win statewide. As I noted on social media, the GOP has two announced primary challengers for SOS and no announced candidates to run against Senator Warnock next year.
The early indications are the GOP is choosing the path of revenge.
