The Ish Josh McKoon Has to Put Up With – New Wave of Birthers
Filing this in the list of reasons no sane person should want to be chairman of the Georgia Republican Party at this moment in that once august organization’s history.
And I cannot believe I need to type these words in 2023, but here goes. Nikki Haley was born in Bamberg, South Carolina on January 20th, 1972. This means she is a citizen of the United States of America, and having passed the age of 35 she is Constitutionally qualified to be President.
A couple of activists who I have known at times to hold bizarre beliefs have been pushing to have Nikki Haley’s name removed from Georgia’s GOP Presidential Preference Primary ballot because, they claim, she is not a natural born citizen. Lawd, help me. I am choosing not to name them because they are private citizens, but don’t think the temptation to name them isn’t calling out to me.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution enshrines Nikki Haley’s citizenship clearly by declaring, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” Parents have nothing to do with it. Jus soli, a fancy way of saying, “citizenship based on place of birth,” is the principle that applies to Haley’s circumstances.
Further, there has been a court case on the books since 1898 that also clarified what defines birthright citizenship, United States v. Wong Kim Ark. I mean, did these folks not learn anything in their civics classes?
But also, this is the type of fire Chairman McKoon has to fight on the regular. Whackadoodles in his own party that are misinformed and willing to fight for their misinformed beliefs, wasting everyone’s time that could be spent making a case for why the GOP offers superior solutions to America’s problems in 2023. But nope. We gotta deal with morons who don’t know their own Constitution that they claim to be fighting for. What’s worse, their erroneous belief is so strong that there is no hope of changing their mind, and they are compelled, as if demon possessed, to spread their dark gospel among anyone susceptible to gullibility. They are a freaking cancer, hoping to have their mutated cells multiply and spread.
It’s embarrassing.
For Josh McKoon’s part, he did respond to these activists’ emails, pointing out that the candidates appearing on the ballot were placed there by a unanimous vote of the State Executive Committee.

David Shafer to a public debate on this issue he declined and supported her
being on the ballot. I tried to include a resolution to this effect at the
State GOP Convention, but was not allowed to present it despite my being on the
State Resolutions Committee. I tried to present it to the Convention, but the
Convention was dismissed for lack of quorum while I was standing at the
microphone.
Why not just open up the
presidency to the to anyone if we are going to continue to ignore and wink at
the Constitution? I hope my resolution will be presented at the GRA State

CALLING FOR ADHERENCE TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION FOR ELIGIBILITY TO BECOME
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
WHEREAS: The Constitutional qualifications of
Presidential eligibility, as written in Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 5.
state: "No person except a natural born Citizen, shall be eligible, or a
Citizen
of the United States, at the time of Adoption of
this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;"
WHEREAS: A originalist and strict
constructionist understanding of the Constitution in the Scalia and Thomas
tradition, as well as multiple U.S. Supreme Court cases, have found that a
"Natural Born Citizen" is defined as a
person born on American soil of parents who are both citizens of the United
States at the time of the child’s birth.
WHEREAS: Several states, candidates, and major
political parties have ignored this fundamental Presidential qualification,
including candidate Nikki Haley whose parents were not
American citizens at the time of her birth.
WHEREAS: Ignoring Presidential qualifications
undermines the foundation of Constitutional legality for governance and
security for the United States by allowing unqualified candidates
to run in Primary State contests.
WHEREAS: The Executive Committee of the GAGOP
decides which presidential candidates are allowed on the ballot for the 2024
Georgia Republican presidential primary
RESOLVED, it is the will of this convention that
only candidates who meet the natural born-citizenship standard, interpreted
through an originalist and strict constructionist standard,
be placed on the 2024 Georgia Republican
presidential primary ballot.
