Take the Trump VP Running Mate Poll

“The Godzilla of Truth,” conservative talk radio host, John Fredericks is running a poll to gauge public support for Trump’s pick for Vice President and I am absolutely loving it.

It’s simple. Beautiful. Elegant. The best poll I have ever seen, and trust me, I have seen a lot of polls.

But first, a little more on John Fredericks for those who may not have access to his MAGA firebrand radio show. The dude is unapologetically all in on Trump and his audience loves him for it. Talkers Magazine has ranked him at 43 in their “Heavy Hundred” listing of who they consider the 100 most important talk show hosts in America. Many Georgia MAGA activists, such as Cobb GOP Chair, Salleigh Grubbs and even the Alabama Cheerleader regularly appear on his show. When he takes his show on the road, such as to the Georgia State Republican Convention, it is in a giant RV that has an 8 foot tall picture of Trump’s face emblazoned on the side along with the phrase, “Trucking the Truth.”

No one can doubt where he stands when it comes to his allegiance to the MAGA movement as he is one of its strongest advocates.

Fredericks is also proving that he is an out of the box thinker and isn’t willing to dismiss ideas that some have been found to hold unreasonably critical opinions. Enter Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) aka Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), my own preferred method for ending Georgia’s $300 million over a decade problem that also shows Republicans the quickest way to lose the United States Senate. It is important to note that Fredericks is not a full throated supporter of IRV/RCV, so it wouldn’t be fair to paint him with that broad of a brush. But he is running an experiment/poll that I find absolutely fascinating.

When you click the link you are taken to a very simple RCV poll to select who you think should be Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential running mate. And when I say it is simple, I am not kidding, as the instructions are as follows: “Rank up to five choices. Mark no more than one oval in each column.” You can then rank from the following candidates: Byron Donalds, Glen Youngkin, Nancy Mace, Ben Carson, Tim Scott, Marco Rubio, JD Vance, and Marsha Blackburn.

That’s it. That’s all that is needed. The people who claim that RCV is too confusing should immediately go participate in this poll and they will see for themselves that their argument that RCV is too confusing is demonstrably false.

The poll also demonstrates how the different rounds of voting works in a beautiful way with an easy to follow animation. As last place candidates are eliminated, it shows where the voters’ support goes next. To access that animation, click on the preliminary results button after you complete the poll. As of writing this post on the morning of May 15th, Ohio’s US Senator JD Vance is in a neck and neck race with South Carolina’s US Senator Tim Scott for the winning slot.

I want to lift John Fredericks up for not kowtowing to false narratives about a concept that conservatives should be exploring instead of denigrating. His willingness to try it and see is refreshing and my money is that it will produce a representative result of the mood of his audience. The Trump team should also take note as they deliberate on who to pick as his running mate, and perhaps even run a more scientific internal RCV poll to help them see where the public is and who they can get behind if their favorite is no longer available.
