Kennedy Jr. and West Say They’ve Met Georgia Ballot Requirements. Will Dems Succeed In Keeping Them Off The November Ballot?
Last week Georgia Recorded reported that the campaigns of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornell West, and Claudia De la Cruz (Party for Socialism and Liberation) had submitted the necessary signatures (7500 each) to add their names to the November General Election ballot. These folks are, of course, candidates for President of these United States.
Secretary of State’s office is reviewing the candidate’s petitions.
Today comes word that the Georgia Democratic Party doesn’t want these campaigns, as well as the campaign of Jill Stein of the Green Party, to appear on the ballot because of election integrity, or #democracy, or something.
Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director Tolulope Kevin Olasanoye said in a statement that “we take the nomination process very seriously and believe everyone should follow the rules,” saying Kennedy, independent Cornel West, Claudia De la Cruz of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and Jill Stein of the Green Party “have not faithfully observed the state of Georgia’s election laws.”
“They have missed numerous statutory deadlines, skipped filing fees, submitted the wrong names on the nomination petitions, and some failed to hold conventions” Olasanoye said. “None of these candidates are qualified to be on the Georgia ballot.”

Oh, come on.
Georgia has some of the most draconian third-party and independent candidate ballot access laws in the nation. We’re finally starting to see some easing of those restrictions yet Democrats, who are at the moment telling the world about all the threats that exist to our fragile democracy, are trying to block candidates from the ballot.
Hopefully, this effort will fail and we’ll see all of these candidates on the November ballot.
