Thoughts on Biden’s Vax Mandate

I do not trust the government. I trusted it less when I became part of it. I trust the media even less than that, and yet, here I am now, writing to you as part of the media.  One seems to want to tell you what they think you want to hear while the other is just trying to get you to keep watching by appealing to your outrage.  I’ll let you decide which is which.

I am not unique, as an American, in my distrust for both of these institutions. And I believe I am justified for feeling this way as politicians continue to fail to keep their promises and the media continues their obvious bias in reporting stories. I have been in the room when a politician breaks a campaign promise. I have seen news stories unfold before my own eyes only to see them reported completely differently than what actually happened.

I don’t trust them because they do not deserve to be trusted.

So we have arrived at September 10th, 2021, one day before the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the President of the United States has just issued a vaccine mandate for employers with more than 100 employees. What President Biden is trying to do and what he actually did are two separate things. He is trying to make sure we beat the pandemic.  But what President Biden doesn’t understand is what it means to be an American in 2021, that we do not trust him, or anyone else from the government.  What President Biden has actually done is make refusing to get vaccinated an act of civil disobedience against government overreach.

And that lack of understanding of what it means to be an American is going to turn out to cost American lives. I do not need a crystal ball to tell you that the predictable response from a huge number of Americans will be to raise one of their middle fingers, sometimes both. And they will remain unvaccinated as a form of protest.

This isn’t leadership.  It is failed leadership. It is a failure to lead in a way that gains the trust of the American people.

The truth is that no one can make you get vaccinated against COVID. And if you haven’t gotten your vaccine, you have your reasons. But if any of them are regarding the safety of the vaccine, I would ask that you do your own research, not the kind that confirms your own bias, or the kind that will own the libs or the kind that will point to an exception and try to create a rule. But honest research that looks at real data and then ask yourself if your reasons outweigh the benefits of the vaccine.

Over 177 million people in the United States are fully vaccinated. There are no clinical trials in human history that have a sample size of 177 million people. If the vaccine was unsafe, we surely would have seen the negative impacts on a wide scale. What we are seeing, as hospitalizations continue to climb, is that the vaccine is doing a pretty good job of keeping people out of the hospital, and the vast majority, over 90 %, of COVID patients are unvaccinated.

But don’t take my word for it, I was part of the government and part of the media. Go talk to people you do trust.  Talk to your own doctor. Talk to your friends and family who have been vaccinated. If you have committed to not getting vaccinated you are free to change your mind at any time. Because you are an American and freedom comes with the territory.  Nobody gets to tell you what to do.
