State Rep. Ruwa Romman Is Running For Governor.
State Representative Ruwa Romman (D-Duluth) announced yesterday that she is running for Governor. Romman is considered a rising star among the left flank of the Democratic Party, and her campaign kickoff video is sure to delight her fans.
Romman was a key figure in the Democratic opposition to former President Biden’s support for Israel in the wake of the October 7, 2023 attacks. She later demanded a speaking spot at the 2020 National Democratic Convention, but was denied. She eventually supported Democratic Nominee Kamala Harris.
Not everyone is excited about Romman’s run, however.
Among her sharpest critics is Democratic state Rep. Esther Panitch, the lone Jewish member of the General Assembly who said Monday that Romman has no path to victory and accused her of “sabotaging the Democratic Party with her Mamdani-like, socialist platform.”
“With the future of our country at stake,” Panitch said, “we can’t afford to indulge an unserious candidate’s ego for the highest office in Georgia.”
As an outside observer to Democratic politics, I wonder if Romman will pull the field to the Left. It seems that the energy and money are found in the left wing of the Democratic Party. What impact will she have on the debate in that race?
