Breaking: Dean Burke Appointed To Executive Branch Post, To Resign From Senate.

State Senator Dean Burke has been appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to be the Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Community Health.

From Governor Kemp’s press release:

“With a long and accomplished medical career in rural Georgia, as well as extensive policy experience as Chairman of the Community Health Sub-Committee and Vice Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, Senator Burke will bring a wealth of knowledge to the role of Chief Medical Officer,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “I’m thankful for his willingness to serve in this new capacity for the benefit of all Georgians, including those in our rural communities.

Burke will resign the Senate effective 12/31/22 and a special election will take place on 1/31/23, per Kemp.

Burke also holds the position of Majority Caucus Secretary. No word on when the Senate GOP Caucus will fill that position.
