2026 Watch: Trammell For AG. Collins For Senate? King Strong?
Some candidate news to bring to your attention:
ITEM 1: Former Democratic House Minority Leader Bob Trammell has filed paperwork to run for Attorney General.
Robert Trammell, who led House Democrats from 2017 until his defeat for re-election in 2020, filed paperwork to explore a run for attorney general — an office being vacated by incumbent Chris Carr, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor.
Trammell, a lawyer from West Georgia, was a state representative for a single term before ascending to the helm of House Democrats. After Leader Stacey Abrams resigned to focus on her 2018 race for governor, the soft-spoken rural lawyer edged out one of her top deputies to become the leader of an increasingly urban caucus.
ITEM 2: Congressman Mike Collins draws closer to a run for the U.S. Senate.
Last week, Collins met with James Blair, the White House deputy chief of staff for legislative, political and public affairs. Collins said that while he made the trip to the White House to discuss a variety of legislative topics, the Georgia Senate race did come up.
We’re told Collins is waiting until the end of the second quarter — which closes today — to officially jump into the race. An announcement could happen in the coming weeks.
When asked about his White House meeting, Collins jokingly told us, “You can’t keep a secret in this town.”
But the Georgia Republican followed up by saying he’s “still taking a serious look at [running for Senate].”
ITEM 3: Insurance Commissioner and U.S. Senate Candidate John King released a poll showing that the more people get to know him, the more they like him.
