Air Taxis In Georgia?
Tired of being stuck in Atlanta traffic? Take to the skies in an Air Taxi!
This could soon be the reality in Atlanta and cities across the world as Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing vehicles (eVTOLs) gain acceptance.
What are eVTOLs? Essentially, they are battery-powered aircraft able to take off and land on a fixed point, similar to helicopters. Because they are battery-powered, they’re quiet, making them perfect for use in urban areas.
To get Georgia ready for this mode of transportation, State Rep. Todd Jones dropped HB 156, which passed the House with only a handful of Democrats opposed. The bill gives the Department of Transportation the authority to oversee landing pads, which would include vertiports used by eVTOLs. This will open up the door for the construction of vertiports in areas where it’s financially viable for air taxi companies to operate.
Georgia is poised to be a leader in this industry. Archer Aviation recently received a certificate of occupancy on a 400,000 sq ft facility in Covington to manufacture its air taxis.
Archer Aviation is a leader in this industry and has passed several important milestones in the development of its Midnight eVTOL.
