BREAKING: DeKalb Superintendent Indicted In Illinois
Shocking news this afternoon as DeKalb County Public School Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton has been indicted by Federal Prosecutors in Illinois.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — According to an announcement sent out from Evanston-Skokie School District 65, the Northern District of Illinois has indicted DeKalb County School District Superintendent Devon Horton.
Evanston Roundtable, a news website, said Horton faces charges of wire fraud, embezzlement and tax fraud. Decaturish obtained the indictment and can confirm the details of the Evanston Roundtable story.
Evanston Roundtable reported, “In a 37-page document, Horton was indicted on 17 charges of federal crimes of wire fraud, embezzlement and tax fraud. Three men described in the document as his friends: Antonio Ross, Samuel Ross and Alfonzo Lewis were also indicted. The indictment charges that the four men took kickbacks from businesses they owned that made contracts with District 65 and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) without disclosing their involvement or financial stake.”
Horton tried to hire Ross for a position at DeKalb County Schools, but he turned down the job after the hiring drew scrutiny.
Horton served as the district’s Superintendent until 2023, when he was hired as superintendent of DeKalb County Schools.
“On Thursday, October 9, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois formally filed criminal charges against Dr. Devon Horton for acts he allegedly committed while serving as superintendent of District 65,” the announcement from District 65 Board members Sergio Hernandez and Dr. Nichole Pinkard said.
