Candidate Alert: Gooch Announces Run For LG

WABE’s Rahul Bali tweeted this morning that Senate Majority Leader Steve Gooch is running for Lt. Governor. Bali posted a press release Gooch sent out announcing his candidacy.

Senator Gooch is the first Republican to officially announce his candidacy. However, Senator Blake Tillery has filed a Declaration of Intent to run, and there’s no reason to think we won’t hear an announcement from him soon. Other Senators currently on the 2026 Rumor Tracker are still expected to run…at least that’s what my sources are telling me.

Of note is that the current occupant of the Lt. Governor’s office, Burt Jones, has not announced his plans yet. Does Gooch’s announcement foreshadow an announcement from the LG soon? One would think.
